Each season, one exceptional horse is chosen by annual drawing to receive the full Iron Equine Select Program — a complete, competition‑long nutrition partnership built to elevate performance from the first show to the last. This horse becomes the year’s Select Team representative, showcasing the precision, discipline, and physiology‑driven excellence at the core of Iron Equine.

Apache came into Shannon's life when he was just 2 years old. He was living in Georgia when Shannon first laid eyes on him, and she immediately knew he was the one.

Apache had belonged to a man who had passed away, and his son had no interest in keeping the horses. He was planning to send all three horses to the sale barn. Shannon and a friend decided to purchase all three horses and give them a chance at a different future.

None of the horses were halter broke. They were friendly, but completely unhandled. Getting them home was an adventure in itself. They had to be run into the trailer because there was simply no other way to get them loaded.

Once Apache arrived home, his journey with Shannon truly began. She worked with him every day, slowly earning his trust and building a bond with him. After a few months, Apache was started under saddle. There was no arena, so all of his early training was done in a large open pasture.

From the very beginning, Apache showed Shannon what a special horse he was. He was kind, gentle, willing, and incredibly smart. During his first few years with Shannon, he was primarily trail ridden because that was the only option available. Those miles turned out to be some of the most important training he ever received. The trails helped Apache develop confidence, learn to think for himself, and become the dependable partner he is today.

Now 17 years old, Apache is still owned, loved, and cherished by Shannon. Over the years, the pair have competed in trail challenges, team penning, ranch sorting, playdays, jumpers, dressage, and eventing. Apache even won a buckle in one of the trail challenges they competed in.

In the fall of 2019, Apache and Shannon began their journey into eventing. Since then, Apache has earned numerous ribbons in dressage, jumping, and eventing, proving time and time again just how versatile he is.

Apache can do a little bit of everything, but his favorite disciplines are trail riding, team penning, and jumping. More than anything, though, Apache is Shannon's partner and longtime best friend.

From an unhandled two-year-old who was nearly sent to the sale barn to a seasoned competition horse who has experienced countless adventures alongside his owner, Apache's story is one of trust, partnership, perseverance, and love. What began with Shannon taking a chance on a young horse she simply knew was "the one" has grown into a 15-year partnership filled with memories, accomplishments, and a bond that continues to grow stronger with every mile and every new adventure.

Fiil out for your chance to be on the Iron Equine Select Team for the 27/28 Show Season!
